Animal well-being
Naturally enough, to produce top-quality meat, you must first take care of your animals. That’s why we are so devoted to their well-being: suitable housing, a healthy diet, respectful handling, and careful transport and slaughtering.

Well-maintained barns
Duroc d’Olives pigs live in well-maintained and ventilated spacious barns with natural light. Thanks to this climate-controlled housing, we can work very hygienically and minimise the occurrence of diseases such as respiratory diseases.

Natural light
We provide as much natural light as possible, plus we use glass or transparent roof panels to a greater extent than is required by law.

Fresh food and drinking water
Our animals have constant access to fresh food and drinking water.

Enrichment materials
In the barns, we provide toys or ‘enrichment materials’, e.g. a long metal play chain, a straw bin to rummage through, rubber balls, hessian bags, etc. Not only does this stimulate the pigs, but it also distracts them so they don’t get bored or aggressive with each other.

Transport
The animals are transported carefully, with respect for the animals. We transport the piglets in air-conditioned trucks, which are heated in winter or cooled in summer. Duroc d’Olives is a local product, which also helps to reduce the transport distances.

Future plans
We are especially aware that the animals’ well-being is a key concern for consumers, and that this will become even more important in the future. As a result, we have planned a range of investments for the coming years. We will replace the old barns with new ones, by paying even greater attention to the well-being of the animals: more space, no cages, more distractions, extra natural light, etc.
Abattoirs
We only work with abattoirs that meet strict standards for animal well-being. The reception and the supervision of the animals just before the slaughter are essential quality criteria for us.
